Imagine Albert Einstein on Ritalin
Albert Einstein, Isaac
Newton, Winston Churchill, Beethoven, and Helen Keller all struggled in childhood. Some teachers chastised
them, labeled them learning disabled, and/or described them as disruptive, mentally slow, and unsociable. Albert Einstein,
in fact, was told his was “adrift in foolish dreams.” This genius man with a masterful mind
did not speak until his fourth birthday and did not read until he turned seven. Luckily, these brilliant contributors did
not grow up in today’s society; otherwise, they’d most likely be candidates for Ritalin.
By Federal Law, Ritalin and other related ADD and ADHD
drugs are classified as Schedule II Controlled Substances. This same classification is given to cocaine,
opium and morphine. As such, Ritalin can be an extremely dangerous and highly addictive drug. Withdrawal
symptoms of Ritalin may include depression, fatigue, paranoia, increased dreaming, irritability, bedwetting, and suicide.
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, side effects may include stunting of growth, depression,
insomnia, nervousness, skin rash, anorexia, nausea, dizziness, headaches, abdominal pain, and changes in blood pressure or
pulse. Tourette's Syndrome, a permanent and irreversible condition characterized by body ticks, spasms,
screaming obscenities, and barking sounds, are also linked. The physiological changes that cause these side effects can
occur whether or not there is an outward manifestation of symptoms.
Yet, more and more children are prescribed with the drug because they are identified as hyper,
learning impaired, or behaving differently than other children. Let’s examine these statistics:
The United States buys and consumes over 90 percent of the world’s supply of Ritalin; in some schools 50% of
the enrolled children take Ritalin; and, one in every 30 American children between the ages of 5 and 19 are currently taking
the Schedule II drug. In fact, some of these kids are selling Ritalin to others
on the streets. A well-known, local criminal defense attorney shared that about 60% of his clients charged
with crimes ranging from driving under the influence to armed robbery all admit to taking Ritalin at one point during their
life. Despite the troubling statistics, the possibility still exists to develop children’s minds in positive
ways by honoring and respecting their differences! Parents must be told that learning, attention, and neurological
issues can be understood, treated, and eliminated. Many ADD and
ADHD problems are successfully remedied with natural therapies including chiropractic care, exercise, and nutrition.
At Life Empowerment Wellness Center, we witness the healing and regenerative powers of the human body and spirit
every day. Children and adults are able to slowly and carefully eliminate dangerous drugs by allowing
their bodies to heal as we work to enhance the function of their central nervous systems. Let’s permit the body to express its genetic potential every minute. Let’s
encourage the geniuses of tomorrow!
